谷氨酸锌是谷氨酸与锌形成的螯合物，与硫酸锌比较，具有味感好，口服吸收快，生物利用度高，对胃刺激性小，在体内锌不易蓄积等优点，是补锌的理想药物。有研究者对正常家兔分别灌服及静脉注射谷氨酸锌和葡萄糖酸锌，用原子吸收分光光度法测定血清中锌的浓度，口服谷氨酸锌和葡萄糖酸锌在家兔体内的药动学过程均符合开放型一室模型，静脉注射谷氨酸锌和葡萄糖酸锌在家兔体内的药动学过程均符合开放型二室模型。口服谷氨酸锌较葡萄糖酸锌吸收快，达峰时间短，是较好的补锌制剂。肝脏疾病患者长期服用锌剂时，可使血中谷氨酸含量下降而不利于该类疾病患者的康复，但谷氨酸锌能克服这一缺点，因而其作为肝脏疾病的治疗或辅助治疗药物尤为合适。目前，已成功地研制出复方谷氨酸锌口服液、复方谷氨酸锌口腔膜剂、复方谷氨酸锌肠道外营养剂、谷氨酸锌凝胶剂、谷氨酸锌滴眼液、谷氨酸锌壳聚糖滴眼液等，主要用于痤疮、脂溢性皮炎、口腔溃疡、幼儿厌食症等疾病治疗，取得了比较满意的效果。如临床应用谷氨酸锌滴眼液治疗结膜炎、角膜炎、沙眼患者共44例，总有效率达95.2%。与硫酸锌滴眼液相比，具有疗效好、疗程短、无刺激性等优点。
